Just so you all know

When we had that nasty storm the other day lightening struck the transformer by the house and in the process took out a whole row of the outlets in the house AND the DSL modem so until I get another one I am stuck just posting at work. Hopefully we'll have another one in soon though. Phil will get to work on the outlets in the house this weekend. Hopefully it will just be the first outlet that needs replacing and the rest of the string will work again. The outlets needed replacing anyway.
I pulled the Sweet Palmetto onion yesterday a the tops had been fallen over and they look great. They are out drying in the sun now.
Lost one of the meat chicks when the brooder light blew the other day and all the chicks piled on each other.
Not much else to tell you. I still have a lot of clean up to do from the storm and hoping to get some done this weekend.

  2. You have my sympathy, Becky. We have had a few issues with our house this week too. I had to replace the pull-switch for the light in the bathroom, and now the thermostat on our central heating boiler seems to be playing up. If it's not one thing it's another...

  4. That just stinks!

I do have a question for you when you have the time to answer. I planted some garlic and multiplying onion last fall but I'm not sure when they will be ready. The tops are nice and green. Is there a way to know without pulling one up?

  5. With garlic the green leaves start to die from the bottom up. When the bottom 3 or 4 leaves are dead and the top 5 or 6 are still green, its time to lift the bulbs. If you're not sure, dig a bulb or two and check. A mature bulb is fully swelled, well sized and has some partially decomposed wrappers.
Multiplier onions can be harvested like regular onion when the tops fall over.

  6. DSL will be back on Wednesday and the outlets got fixed yesterday. Phil is not an electrician--we had a book, lol. I will have a couple posts on Wed. or Thursday. I have been taking pictures as I harvest.
