Back Pain

I have hurt my back again. Doing the same thing as last time I hurt it. The ducks have a large metal pan for their water. I is at least 5 gallons. I fill it up, carry it to the pen, reach through the door and then swing it to the side. It is that swinging it to the side that is getting me. The duck water and food will have to be switched around since the food does not have to swing to the side like that. I mainly moved the water to the side it is on now because it was wetting the other pen but now that the pigs are in there, what little puddle the duck waterer makes is nothing compared to the mud holes the pigs can make.
My back is a good bit worse than last time. I am rather miserable. I can sit down but getting to that position is the hard part. Everything has to be leg muscles. No leaning! No lifting unless back is perfectly straight. Getting down to the floor is a nightmare.
And , of course, I don't really have any options. I HAVE to do all those things. The brooders are on the floor in the spare room. Have to get down to feed and water.
Had to have the dehydrator today to dehydrate some mushrooms I finally found on sale. It was a larger packages and I surely wasn't going to let them go to waste. The dehydrator is in a bottom cupboard. Not to mention the mushroom package was on the bottom of the frig.
Had to have the crock pot to  make supper (because I surely won't feel like cooking), had to lean over the table then lift it (yes, this causes screeching in pain). Had to cook up the mountain of quail eggs for the pigs,-- pan is on the bottom of the cupboard....sigh, I could go on but you get it. I was up for about an hour this morning and am exhausted now, laying on the heating/massager again (no turning on the massage setting-it hurts!). And yes, I have to get out and do the animals and then try to get a shower and go to work. It is going to be a LONG day.
At least I actually slept well. I can lay on my back and on one side (getting to that side is the hard part) without pain as long as I stay still. I  think I only moved once in the night.

  1. I'm sorry. I sure hope you have pain medication. Call yourself and tell her you're taking a day off. Bless you.

    1. I tried pain medication (3 different kinds) yesterday. It didn't even ease off. I would call but there are things that need doing at work that only I can do. I may leave early today though.

  2. I hope it heals quickly. And from someone that has struggled with shoulder/neck issues for years. Don't do that again. You can break up the trip in two. Carry 20lbs of water twice instead of 40lbs once. It works. Or use a hose. I had a year or two that I couldn't carry more than 10lbs at a time (strict instructions from my chiropractor). Things can still get done. They just have to be broken down. I takes longer but doesn't hurt you.

    1. Yeah, the hose is probably a much better option.

I have dealt with back pain and a herniated disk for about 20 years now, I currently have no insurance so I have no choice but to treat it myself.
What I do is I get Valerian, it is a natural muscle relaxant, I take 2 to 3 every 4 to 8 hours with some anti inflammatory like Ibuprofen or tylenol. (try to find it at a GNC or health food store if you can, the stuff in Walmart or the grocery store is not always very effective) for the anti inflammatory to work you have to keep taking it, and you have to take it with something that will relax the muscles at the same time.

Also rather than just heat, alternate heat and cold, the cold will help to draw out the inflammation.

I hope that helps, I often have bouts of back pain that leave me unable to walk but I find that if I do all of that, it usually clears up before it gets that bad.

    1. Thanks, we have no health food stores here but I have always found the ibuprofen works fine here. I know I can get Valerian too. Will definitely try it.

    2. Just wanted to let you know that I did get the Valerian and took it with some ibuprophen, plus I put some Apercreame on it and while it isn't by any means better the pain is a whole lot more managable now. Thanks so much!

    3. Glad it helped!! Just keep taking it and it will eventually go away. When it gets that bad you will likely need to take it for a few days before it really gets better.

There is this really amazing rub I use as well, It is called Merry Hempsters and it is in a green tube, they sell it at Amazon for $4 I have never found any type of rub that works as well as this for tight spasming muscles. It works so good I have to hide it or my husband and daughter will use it all up ;) I have to order some more.

  5. I have a lot of sympathy for you on this issue, since I suffer a lot from similar symptoms (although in lots more places) because of my Fibromyalgia. I have prescription medication called Naproxen, which seems to be pretty effective most of the time. Is Phil not about to asisst with watering ducks etc?

    1. Phil works from 6:00 in the morning until usually 5-6:00 in the evenings. The animals are kind of my thing but Phil has been real good about carrying the 50 lb feed bags and the bales of hay/straw lately. However, Michelle did volunteer to come out and help me with the animals today and I did let her (and she really does not like getting messy, lol). It did make all the difference.

  6. Hi Becky, sorry to hear about your back. At my age, I am carrying, throwing and everything else I'm not suppose to do and so sometimes my back goes out. A doctor at the VA told me, the most effective way to make it better is to take a very hot shower or bath before you go to bed, take your pillows and place them under your legs at the knee area. and sleep on your back. Get some Icy/hot and spread it in the area of the pain and rub it in good. You will need to do this for up to 4 days. If your are sitting around, put a hot water bottle behind you. Worked for me so, may be worth a try. Good luck

  7. Too much work can really bring you back pain and since you can’t just give up easily on your work, you must do something to improve your health. By the way, have your tried consulting with your doctor about it? I suggest you do some therapy to remedy your back pain.
