One of my bantam hens has hatched 8 little chicks. This is the best hatch I have had from a hen hatching them by herself. She may end up with more since there are still more eggs but I would doubt it. I will likely have to take them from her and move them to a cage or brooder as it is hard for a hen to keep them safe with all the cats we have. These are a mille fleur/ Japanese bantam mix.
Congrats on the chicks!
ReplyDeleteThey are really Easter chicks, too. :)
Cute!

Yeah, but mine won't be dyed pretty colors. These will have to be natural Easter chicks :)
DeleteSO cute, Becky... nice job Mama hen!
ReplyDeleteWell done, its a shame to take them away from the hen. Its so much easier when she can keep them the right temperature and you dont have to worry about having a heat lamp on all the time.
ReplyDeleteTrue. I have been thinking that maybe I will move her with them. I have plenty of empty cages.
DeleteThey are so adorable. I miss having chicks. A few years back, I had a hen disappear. She should her pretty little head a couple of weeks later with 11 chicks!!!
ReplyDeleteMy wife would love them. They always had chickens (and chicks) when she lived at home.
ReplyDeletePerfect! Just in time for Easter!
ReplyDeleteWay to go, mama hen! That is quite a good yield since you didn't have to interfere with the hatching process at all.
ReplyDeleteI have duck eggs in the incubator too. Just three of them and they were looking good but only one has pipped today. I hate hatching duckling, they just never seem as strong to me as chicks.
DeleteThey sure are cute!
