Wow, I am really not sure I like the new Blogger. Everything is just so light, I can't see the darn boxes and I can't find anything! I want my "dashboard" back!
Anyway, I finally got down to the garden today for a minute and pulled the garlic. Unfortunately the batteries in the camera were dead so you got this phone picture instead but it will have to do. None of the garlic was real large but I am quite pleased with it since I bought just one large head of garlic at the store and think I paid $.71 for it and I got all this garlic in return. It is now drying in the greenhouse since it is a bit of an overcast day today. It smells wonderful...well, if you like the smell of garlic like I do.
Now where is that Publish button.....ah hah...
you have a delightfully informative blog
ReplyDeleteI dry mine in the bike shed. The whole shed smells of garlic for weeks. Luckily I think my townhouse mates don't mind the smell.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I agree - the new Blogger layout is a pain. And today I'm also missing Picnik, which has been discontinued.
ReplyDeleteI hope my Garlic will give as good a return as yours (actually it won't since mine was a lot more expensive, and I have only found space to plant about 20 cloves.)
Now that I have looked at it more, I am getting used to it. They didn't change a lot. I have found the "stats" real interesting. I like seeing how many page views I have. It was a lot more than I thought but then maybe a lot of them are just me, lol.
DeleteI don't know what Picnik is but I am sure if you used it a lot, it is terrible to have it suddenly gone.
The garlic head came from our local IGA. They get a lot of local produce and this garlic was large and had a lot of cloves, that was why I decided to try it. It wasn't one of those perfect cloves in the little box.
Wow! Harvesting garlic in April? Perhaps things keep a different time table in your neck of the woods. The ones I planted last fall are only about 6 inches tall, but there are a few clusters that somehow escaped harvest last summer that are actually looking quite mature... I wonder if they'll be edible or not. Have you ever had volunteers leftover from the previous year?
ReplyDeleteNormally the ones I plant in the fall are not ready by now but we were so wam all winter that they just grew right through the winter.
DeleteHi Becky, I can smell the garlic right now. I'm with you on this new blogger thing. Your phone picture is fine.
ReplyDeleteGreat harvest Becky :)
ReplyDeleteI love garlic and would love to grow my own someday, too.
Carolyn
Mine are emerging at the moment. But I'll have to wait a long time for that lovely smell. Worth it though isn't it?
ReplyDeleteDefinitely1
DeletePretty great for a 71 cent investment!
ReplyDeleteI think so, though it did take up more time in the bed than I thought it would.
DeleteClick on the small blogger icon on the top, to the extreme left and it will open your dashbord.
ReplyDeleteGreat harvest on garlic. Did you grow them in land on in containers? If you grew them in containers could you please tell me roughly the size of the container you used.
Yes, I have found the dashboard but it isn't nearly as easy to use as the last dashboard was or it seems that way anyway.
DeleteI grew this garlic in half of one of the raised beds.
Our garlic is just coming up! Good looking harvest. I like your garden tip of the week. Great idea.
ReplyDeleteI got this great book that has lots and lots of garden tips so I thought I would share some of the better ones every week. Nice to see someone notice them.
DeleteWe can't wait for garlic. This is our first year trying. We hope we have as much success!
ReplyDeleteI didn't get any garlic planted last fall except 3 special italian ones in the greenhouse. But in other years they aren't ready to pull until the end of May, first part of June.
ReplyDeleteI definitely need to harvest our garlic. I cook with it all the time.
