Fridge Challenge

So after seeing Daphne do the Fridge Challenge, posted at the From Seed to Table blog, I decided to take them up on it. By the way their nice clean, neat fridges just make me sick. You aren't going to find a nice clean neat fridge here, sorry, not today anyway. But since the challenge was to just go take a picture, that is what I did. Don't worry it isn't too scary because we had to clean it out some to put the bacon and hams in.
Yeah the door just plain doesn't open all the way because- not only is the fridge trying to fall through the floor- but there is a vent in front of it that didn't quite fit down past the tile and just hasn't been fixed. Anyway, on the bottom are the hams in their bags of brine. Beside it are the butter containers of bacon grease and I think the top one is butter, on the other side of the hams is a jar of hot pepper relish (by the way, it was very good but only slightly hot even with all those hot peppers that were in it). On top of the hams are a few leftovers of the roast that had no where else to go.Behind the hams are jars of lard and miscellaneous other crap (ok, I really don't know what is back there).
On the second shelf are several jars of stuff, probably half of which need to be tossed, behind the milk is Michelle's jug of tea, more jars of lard and whatever. And  in the center is, of course, the bacon. I have managed to shove three of them in small open spaces in either of the freezers. I, somehow, have to get the rest of it in but we just aren't eating fast enough! I will likely switch it this weekend with the rest of the bacon that needs to be cured and smoked.
On the top shelf are the eggs (one was so big it wouldn't fit in the cartons). Normally there are about 4 cartons up there but we used a lot in the pig killing and the chickens have been a bit slack lately. There are more jars of lard up there and a jar of yogurt and a container of pesto that we haven't used yet. I am not sure what is in the jar on top of the pesto. In the center is Michelle's sandwich meat. Behind that could be anything.
The drawer in the middle is Phil's. I don't venture in that drawer-ever. The bottom drawers are empty. One we can't open because of the door not opening and the other is reserved for the weekend cans of beer.
In the door are various things, most of which are seldom used except the lemon juice and jar of garlic. Phil uses the ketchup some. That ketchup container is filled with homemade ketchup, of course.
So there you have it, our fridge. NOT a real exciting post, I know but my allergies kicked in yesterday-like I need more sinus trouble- and this looked like an easy post to do. I am feeling quite a bit better today though, if I could just get my ears to clear so I could hear, I would be alright. So come on and take the challenge..seeing a few more clean fridges might just get me to work on mine :)

  1. Sure is full! We don't have theat much in ours, but it's only two of us... and no pigs!

  2. If I had a fridge whose door didn't open all the way, I'd remove it from the hinges and remove the drawer and then put the door back on. That way at least I'd have the space where the drawer used to be. Though my fridge isn't packed right now, it does get that way sometimes and then I need all the room I can find.

I envy those hams. A friend of my townhousemates (THMs) is a farmer and she sometimes raises pigs. I split half a pig with my THMs once and it was wonderful. They don't want to share this time though :<. So sad. She doesn't raise many pigs and they get spoken for quickly. My THMs might give me some pork chops though. I can hope.

    1. Nah the frig leaks too and doesn't drain and it collects under the drawers. It is a really old frig.

  3. lol, my frig. needs a cleaning too and it does not get a good one often. but, now would be a good time to get it done since i can tell you the only things that are in it at the moment is a quart of lactaid, a small bowl of leftover peas, a small bowl of leftover mashed potatoes, and a few condiments, a box of raisins, a hunk of cheddar, and two doz. eggs. guess i not only need to clean the frig. but i need to start cooking too. just been too busy canning and dehydrating lately that by the end of the day food is the last thing i wanna think about. it is a good thing that hubby likes the "your're on your own" menu!

  4. You all have such full fridges, mine is pretty devoid of food so you can see all the gunk on the shelves and its just not pretty. Like you I have a lot of bottles many of which are seldom used and sadly that is about it.

    1. You know there really isn't much space in that door. It looks like a lot of bottles but you buy one here and there--thinking you are going to use them--but they just aren't all as necessary as you think when you buy them. I do really need to go through mine again though and clean up the frig. sigh. Not this weekend, I have to work tomorrow--rarely happens for me but this weekend is our Day for Kids Celebration.

  5. Your fridge is so stocked! I guess if you find a recipe that appeals to you then you mostly have most of the ingredients for it chilling in your fridge.

    1. Funny thing is that since I got stocked up (just this last year) recipes are less of a necessity because you know what goes well together and you just...cook. Anyone can follow a recipe but not anyone can cook and I now feel that it has to do with what ingredients you have available to you. If you don't have a good supply, you can't really...cook.

  6. Hi Becky! You have so many good things in there! How many people do you know have stuff like that? I don't know any, but you! My fridge is filled, but not necessarily with good stuff like that! I will be cleaning my fridge out come Monday! A little at a time, though, I may have some pears to deal with! Blessings from Bama!

    1. I have always wanted to have a frig that has things like these in it. Just never thought it would be possible but sometimes you have to wait for the right time and just make it possible.
