A Little Winter Harvest

I finally made it down to my garden today and found a little harvest waiting for me. Lots off little broccoli shoots off of my three plants and just a few turnips. Though it doesn't look like I will get more turnips, I have never been able to grow turnips in my garden before so this is definitely progress.

I see a few more small cauliflower heads starting and the cabbage is looking good. The kale seems to have stalled a bit in the cold weather but we will be getting warmer soon.

  1. That broccoli looks so good. I'm eating my frozen broccoli which is OK, but not nearly as good as fresh picked.

    1. We ate the other broccoli and cauliflower that I harvested and it is much milder and less tough than the stuff in the stores. So nice

  2. Fresh produce from the garden in winter is just marvelous. I keep watching my turnips I sowed too late. They are only about three inches tall.

  4. Yep, that the biggest of those turnips looks a very respectable size - and no holes in it! The turnips I grow always seem to attract some sort of hole-boring insect, which lays eggs that hatch into little white grubs.

    1. There were no holes in the turnip roots but plenty in the leaves. I am not sure what bug it is that loves turnip leaves but never touches the kale, cauliflower, cabbage or broccoli leaves.
I used to have some little white grubs in my plums each year.

  10. I just found you via The Squirrel Family blog and had to follow. I skimmed through a few posts and am now off to find a decent sized Pork Shoulder to make sausage, I have a small smoker so some will find their way into that at the weekend.
