Have you ever just made a mistake and stumbled onto something really good? That is what happened here. But first the recipe:
2 quarts of milk
2/3 cups of sugar
1 cup of cornmeal
Cook in the crockpot a 2-3 hours until the cornmeal thickens. Cool and eat! It is so good! And I never would have know if I didn't have my dry milk in the same plastic containers as my cornmeal....because this is the same recipe I used to make yogurt only there is no cornmeal, it needs dry milk....so you see my mistake. I put it all in the frig and I am eating it for breakfasts.
Sounds almost like a sweet version of polenta - made thick, cooled and sliced. What texture is that stuff you made?
ReplyDeleteHard to describe. It is like eating pudding. It is not thick enough to slice though.
DeleteAs a kid in North Dakota we had fried mush( aka polenta) pretty often for breakfast. It was just cooked yellow corn meal, cooled, sliced and fried in BUTTER with syrup on it, of course. I made the corn meal mush now but I call it polenta and we love it with chicken cooked in a spaghetti sauce or with minestrone soup. Dean doesn't like the sound of mush so I call it polenta for him. He still won't eat it fried with syrup on it but that's just more for me. LOL
ReplyDeleteI had never tried mush or polenta before. Sounds like I would like it.
DeleteWhat a great mistake, Becky! Usually my mistakes have to be fed to the dogs! Glad it worked out for you! Blessings from Bama!
ReplyDeleteLike Paula growing up I had fried cornmeal mush for breakfast sometimes. It was so good. But it wasn't sweetened beforehand. Though we did put syrup on it.
ReplyDeleteHi Becky, Hmmm! Sounds interesting, I don't have a crockpot, nor full time electric. I enjoy a lot of mistakes I make.
