The jars are 3 deep on each shelf and the buckets on the bottom are flour and sugar. This isn't nearly all the canning jar food as the cupboard in the laundry room is still full but it definitely freed up space on the book shelves and the shelves that hold extra store bought goods.

Thrift Store Find
So today my thrift store shopping resulted in a new shelf. I was running out of shelf space in the spare (storage) room and had taken to setting canning jars on the book shelves wherever they would fit. Today at the thrift store I found the perfect shelf. It was in its original box which was "tore up", as we say here, but I was really hoping it hadn't lost any pieces. It had a metal framed shelf with wooden shelves. I also hoped that I could fit it in the storage room without having to move one of the existing shelves. I got lucky. It fit perfectly in the only space that was left. The only thing that bothered me was when we got home Michelle saying, "I bet Phil will have fun putting that together when he gets home." I asked her why she thought that I couldn't put it together. The instructions were in a different language but there was pictures and it isn't exactly rocket science. It took me about 15 minutes to get the shelf all together and then some time to move all the jars but here it is.
What a great find. I am always trying to figure out where to put more canned items.
ReplyDeleteBravo for the assembly! It looks very nice! I would love to find a few of those! Shelf space is always at a premium, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteYour jars are so pretty you could almost set them around the house as decoration.
ReplyDeletegreat bargan hunting. now more room for more jars!
ReplyDeleteShelving is always a great find!
ReplyDeleteVery nice find! I can never have enough shelving for the canned goods and bulk food storage!
ReplyDeleteGreat find! I love shelving!!!
ReplyDeleteWe have something similar in our garage (which is seldom used for storing cars), though we are not into canning like you are. We store tinned goods and bulk items like rice and onions. Oh, and the garage is also our wine store! [We are members of a wine club, and buy in bulk...]
ReplyDeleteHi Becky, You have a great blog! There's plenty I can learn from it. Will be here more often.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your comments on my blog.
I have almost zero room for additional shelves. I store my jars in their boxes and stack them 3 deep in the bottom of my pantry. Leads to a lot of pulling out boxes to find things but it's worked so far!
ReplyDeleteNice score! Looks good and sturdy. I wonder if you could flip the shelves over so the particleboard would sit "in" the shelf. No way a jar could slide off the edge then. I'm always worried about breaking my jars.
ReplyDeletewow what a great score! I just wish I had extra space to put shelves in! Can't wait to build a new house with a harvest kitchen and built in pantry!
ReplyDeleteNo David the boards just sit on the shelf, the metal side pieces were separate and slid into slots on the legs. But I do know exactly what you mean since I thought about the jars falling off too. I think I can run a strip of wire or something from the unused slots on the legs around each shelf so there will be at least something to keep the jars on. When I find something I cn use I'll fix it.
ReplyDeleteMary, I would dearly love to have a pantry but I guess that is what our spare room is now.
That's SO pretty, oh how I'd love to have filled the mudroom with shelves like that! And of course your canned goods only make it look even more like a picture from a magazine. Awesome!
ReplyDeleteNice find :)
