Unfortunately the deer has eaten almost all the tomatoes and tomato plants, there are just a couple left that weren't on the fence but inside cages that it can't get to. That is where I got the beautiful yellow tomato from. I do have tomatoes in the raised bed out back they are growing well but aren't producing much and I think maybe the trees have caused it to be too shady back there now. The deer also seems to like bell peppers but is not as fond of the jalapenos which is the only reason I have something else besides tomatoes to show in this picture. A lot of the little tomatoes cracked with our recent downpours as well- they'll still taste as good :)
Boy, I thought i had trouble with my own goats and chickens and the odd feral bunny....I couldn't cope with deer. Oh dear me!
ReplyDeleteNice harvest Becky3086. You are way ahead of me! My tomatoes are light green and still hard. They have several weeks to go before they are even close to being ready to pick.
ReplyDeleteBecky, you do have a lot of "problems" to cope with! Storms, power-cuts, snakes, deer... It's a wonder you ever manage to produce a crop, so you have ample cause to be proud of your tomatoes.
ReplyDeleteYeah, we don't seem to get much from the garden but we usually at least get plenty of beans and greens. I guess the beans are out this year but I do still have some in the flower garden by the house. They may not live through this 104F weather we are having today though.

I ate the yellow one today. It didn't have as much flavor as the little red one but it was pretty good for a yellow tomato. If I ever find my garden paper, I'll know what variety it was. Even if I don't those in that garden were all heirlooms and I can save seeds from the next one.

ReplyDeleteLOl, you guys make me laugh. This has been a good season!5 snakes last year and a raccoon that killed all the chickens! We're doing good this year although that deer has really gotten on my nerves. I am going to do something about her tomato eating self real soon.

I ate some of our first zucchini today! cooked with one of our handful of yellow squashes. Yum! we're moving into the land of riches days. :)
ReplyDeleteOnly a couple of my squash plants are growing well and so far haven't produced anything. So much hope at the beginning of summer, so little in the middle :(
